Birth Of The Boot: Minor Setback For Major Comeback Chapter 3

When we got there, I had to warm up while the coach and Coach K talk about my states. We went through tons of workouts and drills that helped the power of my kicking and punting. He told me in the end that if I can consistently make 60-yard field goals I could make it pro, but I must get my consistency down. When we got back from the session, practice was just starting and the other coaches and players asked me how the session went. We had a good practice, and everyone could see the difference just form that one session.  

The next day I got a call from my coach saying, he wanted to speak with me and to come to his office after class. When I got there, he asked right away without asking me if I wanted to sit down “did Coach K pay for that session?” At that point I knew something was up, so I said “no.” He asked did he pay for food or gas I also replied no, and he said, “oh ok never mind you can go”. Later that day in practice when I was warming up Coach Dean and Coach Frances came up to me asking me “why did you lie to the head coach, you can get the whole football program in trouble because it is against the league rules for a coach to take you or pay for anything.” 

Coach F and coach D pulled me to the side along with the head coach and told me I’m off the team until further notice. When Johson (head coach) finally called later that day he told me I’m suspended for two games and Coach K got fired. I had come to the realization that they set him up and didn’t mind messing up my season and I realized that because I only told two coaches and they both wanted Coach Ks coaching position. I feel from 1st and second in the nation to 9th, and they also lost the two games I missed by a field goal.  

My biggest regret was putting so much trust in some coaches I barely know, and I am still suffering because of my choice. My lesson from the situation is always know the rules and ask around before making such a drastic decision, even though I had no reason not fully trusted my coaching staff. Currently I am attending RCTC and will be playing kicker and punter for the school. The football team didn’t have a good season last year, but I hope to help win some games and be a national contender. Stay tuned!
